Yesterday we celebrated Nhan’s 18 month birthday. We don’t always celebrate half-birthday’s, but as Nhan’s condition is continuing to deteriorate, we were worried that we might not get a chance to celebrate his second birthday with him. We decided to pack as many parties and happy experiences into his life as we possibly could and make every moment, big or small, count...
Birthdays can be an especially emotional time, particularly for those who love someone who is living with a life limiting condition. It is a celebration of a milestone, but it can also be a reminder of how precious time is.
It’s easy to get caught up the things that Nhan might miss out on, but something that Nhan will always have is a family full of people who adore him, and dote on him, and love him dearly.
As with most parties there was food and drinks and cake and music!
Nhan listened from his spot at the front of the room, a party hat on his head like a King, cake smeared on his nose and cheek in tradition while his friends gathered around him. He was involved in cutting his cake, and blowing out his candles, and being serenaded by Happy Birthday songs.
Our wonderful nurse Chloe created a beautiful fingerprint tree which will be displayed in the children’s rooms for them to see. Each child was able to make their mark and leave a lasting imprint - a tapestry of fingerprints from a group of incredibly brave kids, who never give up and continue to defy even the hardest of odds.
A big thank you to Minh and her friends who came to play such beautiful music for Nhan and shared the special day with him and his friends.
Another very big thank you to Vicky, and the rest of the fundraising team at ABC International School. These incredible people have been supporting all of Nhan’s care needs. This has included all the products needed to treat his wounds, a high caloric and protein diet which will help him to keep weight on and also promote his wounds to heal, pain relief medication and anything else than Nhan might need to ensure that his quality of life is the best it can possibly be!
One last thank you to the amazing team of nannies who care for and love Nhan, and whom we are privileged to share this day with.
Raise your glasses to a toast for Nhan!
Happy Half-Birthday Precious boy!
