As you might know, this is Nha. We began providing palliative care to Nha in February. Since then, Nha has received different aspects of holistic care and we are pleased to update you on his story!
Nha has a very fragile, skinny little body, and suffers from severe muscle contractions. We give Nha daily massages not only to relax and loosen his muscles, but also, so he can feel the warmth, energy and love from another person and know that he is cared for. Last week Nha really enjoyed a nice warm bath that helped his whole body relax. With the help of generous donors, we have started Nha on Pediasure – a higher calorie, good quality milk formula. We hope that Nha can put on some weight so his little body can be more comfortable.
Nha previously vomited a lot and suffered from nausea. We have given Nha medicine through a patch on his skin that relieves nausea, along with giving his food through his nasogastric tube at a slower rate. We are so pleased to see that the vomiting has decreased significantly.
Nha also has very high levels of oral secretions, and has chronic respiratory issues. Breathing is difficult for him, and he often requires the use of oxygen. Different positioning, medicine to dry his excess secretions and regular nebulisers has helped him.
Pain relief is an important part of palliative care, and Nha has been started on regular pain relief so he can be more comfortable and able to enjoy the little things in life – being read to, looking at the brightly coloured pictures in his books, and enjoying time in the multi-sensory room.
Our palliative care that we give to Nha, has not cured him, and he still has some very, very hard days. But we are glad Nha knows that he is not alone. He does not need to feel like he is fighting this battle by himself. We are here supporting him and most importantly, loving him. We would like to thank you all for your thoughts, love and continued support for Nha!
