On Wednesday, we celebrated Loc's second birthday.
All birthdays are special, but for Loc, who has defied some overwhelming odds - this birthday was an extra important one! Loc had been quite sick earlier in the week and had needed oxygen to help him to breathe, so we were thrilled that his condition improved so quickly and he was well enough to celebrate on the day. We had a big party, complete with balloons, party hats and masks, streamers and two big cakes! We invited a band to sing for Loc and his friends and had a huge subwoofa bass speaker set up so Loc could feel the music as well as hear it. Loc had Happy Birthday sung to him several times in several different languages, and he helped to blow out his candles and cut his own cake. Loc was surrounded by people who loved him and wanted to celebrate this huge milestone with him. We are so privileged to be able to care for Loc, to see him smile, listen to him chatter, kiss his little cheeks and hold him close everyday. We are privileged to be able to help Loc through the harder times, to soothe him when he cries, to treat his pain, and to simply be there with him when there is nothing else to be done. We are privileged to celebrate with Loc, and we are privileged to be able to love Loc as much as we all do. Loc’s birthday was a celebration, but it was also a reminder of how precious moments like this are. Happy Birthday, Little Loc.
